Industry Interview: Editor of The Bride’s Diary

Inside the South African Bridal Magazine

A wonderful supporter of Enzoani, The Bride's Diary magazine, published by Rouge Publishing Pty Ltd, is "South Africa's Favourite Wedding Planner" and a great resource for brides all over the country to find the latest information on bridal trends, tips, and services to plan their dream weddings. The Enzoani Africa team spoke to Alene Deschamps, who serves as Director, Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief for the magazine, to get all her expert opinions on the new bridal season, Enzoani's 2016 wedding dresses, and more!

Can you describe what your job entails?

I work with the daily requirements of running Rouge Publishing Pty Ltd and The Bride's Diary. This includes marketing and sales in order to set the editorial direction of the magazine and creating attractive information that will last and appeal to a large segment of the South African wedding industry, being advertisers and readers. I am responsible for all the editorial, selection of artwork, layout of the magazine, printing, advertising, social media, distribution of the magazine, and well...everything!

What bridal trends are you expecting for 2016?

Surprisingly, the 2016 bridal collections are truly exciting trends. Classical silhouettes enhanced with gorgeous new details. A traditional ball gown receives a makeover with a tiered skirt and translucent tulle overlay which creates an illusion of a full skirt. Some designers replaced the traditional whites and ivories with very light shades of pink, blue and honey, and in some cases even shades of meadow green and sand.

Floral prints in soft pastel colours are also becoming increasingly popular, and this makes a fabulous choice for a spring bride planning a wedding in the countryside. This is not new, but becoming popular with mainstream designers.

3D blooms and feathers are the key new embellishments used for making spring/summer 2016 collections. This can be an absolutely romantic dress inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Couture collections for the next season are full of fresh inspiration for brides who want to look impeccably stylish on their big day!

What have you seen from Enzoani that has helped keep us fresh and unique?

Enzoani caters to every bride's desires, the style-savvy, budget-conscious, and of course the quality-conscious bride-to-be. Enzoani is exciting, inspirational, classic, and feminine. In South Africa, the Enzoani bridal collection has always been one of the most renowned brands to look for since its launch in 2006. Each year, Enzoani brings forward innovative style. It is a brand always filled with exceptional quality and flair.

Which Enzoani gown is your favourite, and why?

Blue by Enzoani Inaru is my favourite gown from the current Enzoani collections. It is elegant, stylish, and very feminine. So romantic. I absolutely love the sweetheart neckline and beautiful keyhole back. Gorgeous :)

How have you seen the bridal industry change over the years?

The bridal industry has become a very demanding industry over the years. Social media has made it more possible for future brides to be aware of what is in fashion as it occurs. Designers are also more aware of what the competition is doing. There are so many options for brides-to-be. At the end, it boils down to a bride's personal taste as a wedding is always a very personal affair.

What is your favourite wedding trend for the season?

A romantic, elegant, stylish and feminine trend always appeals to me. After all, to me, that completes the magic of a wedding!
