Retailer Spotlight: Bruidsmode Joan

Located in the beautiful city of Leeuwarden in The Netherlands, Bruidsmode JOAN has been serving Dutch brides for over three decades with Blue by Enzoani and Beautiful wedding dresses. We spoke with owner Hanni Rinia on what has made Bruidsmode JOAN such a beloved shop and successful institution, as well as on the team's favorite moments and gowns:

How did you get started in the bridal industry? What was the motivation/inspiration to open a bridal store? How did it all start?
Hoe ben je begonnen in de bruidsindustrie? Wat was de motivatie om een bruidswinkel te openen?

“In 1984, I was at an age slightly over thirty, and I strongly felt the need to start my own business. Bridal fashion had always been my interest, so I wanted to do something with that. What is more fun than helping a bride find her dream dress? My profession back then was a dressmaker, and that fits beautifully into the picture. Creating designs, pattern drawing, searching for luxurious fabrics, I loved and still love it! When I found the right location in Leeuwarden, I used this chance immediately! I still enjoy it to the fullest!”

"In 1984 was ik op een leeftijd, iets boven de dertig, dat ik sterk de behoefte had om een eigen bedrijf te starten. Bruidsmode had altijd al mijn interesse, hier wilde ik iets mee doen.  Was is nou leuker dan een aanstaande bruid helpen haar droomjurk te vinden? Mijn beroep was destijds coupeuse en dat past prachtig in het plaatje. Ontwerpen maken, het patroon tekenen, de luxe stoffen uitzoeken, ik vond en vind het geweldig! Toen ik in Leeuwarden de geschikte locatie tegenkwam heb ik deze kans benut en de sprong in het diepe gewaagd! Ik geniet er nog steeds met volle teugen van!"

"In the past 32 years, many brides picked out their wedding dress at our shop. A fun thing is that brides of a long time ago are now coming with their daughters. Recently a mother and daughter came along and the mother purchased her gown in 1984 from us. Her daughter also found her dream dress at Bruidsmode JOAN. At the 2nd fitting session, the mother brought her own dress, and it still fit! Together they put on their wedding dresses for a nice photo."

"In de afgelopen 32 jaar hebben veel bruiden bij ons hun trouwjurk uitgezocht. Het leuke is dat bruiden van toen onze zaak nu met hun dochters komen bezoeken. Onlangs kwamen een moeder en dochter langs waarvan de moeder in 1984 haar jurk bij ons had gekocht. Haar dochter vond ook haar droomjurk bij Bruidsmode JOAN. Bij haar 2e pas-sessie had de moeder haar eigen jurk meegenomen, deze paste haar nog steeds! Samen zijn ze toen in hun bruidsjurken op de foto gezet."

What do you enjoy about working with Enzoani?
Wat vinden jullie fijn aan de samenwerking met Enzoani?

"We are very happy that we can work with the collection of Enzoani. Our customers feel beautiful in their dresses. The perfect fit ensures that your silhouette looks at its best, and the fabrics and designs are fantastic! For us as a retailer, it is a pleasure to work with Enzoani; the lines are short, so much is possible. And Enzoani supports us in various ways, such as supplying sample dresses for our wedding shows and the use of leaflets, pictures and window display material."

"Wij zijn heel blij dat we mogen werken met de collectie van Enzoani. Onze klanten voelen zich prachtig in jullie jurken. De goede pasvorm zorgt ervoor dat je figuur er op zijn mooist uitziet en de stoffen en ontwerpen zijn fantastisch! En Enzoani ondersteunt ons op allerlei gebieden, bijvoorbeeld met het leveren van showjurken voor onze bruidsshows en het gebruik van folders, foto's en etalagemateriaal."

What is your favorite gown from the 2016 collections and why?
Wat is jullie favoriete jurk uit de 2016 collectie en waarom?

"Our opinions about the most favorite dress from the 2016 collection are divided. And that makes sense. There are so many beautiful dresses this season, so it's hard to choose. If we are forced to appoint one model, then it would be one of Beautiful, the BT16-2, we all love it! This classic, almost royal, dress in Mikado fabric stands out for its beautiful lines, low back with lace details and lace neckline. And the price ..... very pleasant!"

"Over onze meest favoriete jurk van 2016 zijn de meningen binnen ons team verdeeld. En dat is logisch. Er zijn dit seizoen zoveel prachtige jurken ingekocht dat het moeilijk kiezen is. Als we dan toch één model moeten benoemen dan is dat eentje van Beautiful, de BT16-2 , die vinden we allemaal prachtig! Deze klassieke jurk, bijna koninklijke jurk in Mikado valt op door zijn prachtige belijning, lage rug met kanten details en kanten halslijn. En de prijs..... zeer aangenaam!"
